ABOUT TALENT'S AFTER SCHOOL MULTI SPORT PROGRAM
Offered to the private schools in Oakville and Burlington
WHAT IS TALENT – YOUNG ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT
The Talent YAD multi sport program is based on the Canadian Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) concept and includes a well rounded number of sports designed for children between 6-12 year old. The purpose of the program is to stimulate, develop and maximize a wide range of motor abilities, skills and attitudes necessary to be a successful athlete and be physically active for life.
WHY MULTI SPORT
Exposing children to many different sports at an early age will enhance their motor abilities, skills and knowledge that are transferable, adoptable and necessary for success in any recreational or competitive sport. In fact, children should not specialize in a single sport until they are well into their teens. Only a few sports fall in the category of an early specialization (from 4-6 years of age) and they are gymnastics, figure skating, diving and synchronized swimming. All other sports belong to a late specialization category of 12 years of age or later. According to numerous studies, early specialization often leads to injuries due to the over-use of the same muscle groups, early burnout and withdrawal from the chosen sport. At the same time, they lack the skills and do not feel confident enough to get involved in a different sport and often stop playing sports altogether.
